Dr. Gurdev Parmar

Dr. Gurdev Parmar, ND

Co-Founder & Medical Director

Dr. Gurdev Parmar is a leader in the field of integrative naturopathic cancer care, having seen many thousands of patients living with cancer starting as an intern in 1998. He and his wife, Dr. Karen Parmar, ND launched the Integrated Health Clinic in 2000, and have since facilitated its growth to become the largest integrated health care facility in Canada.

Dr. Gurdev Parmar works closely with many oncologists, with patient referrals coming from all across Canada and internationally. Dr. Parmar was a consulting naturopathic physician at the Lions Gate Hospital cancer clinic from 2008 to 2012. The Integrated Health Clinic Cancer Care Centre (IHC CCC) model is an evidence-guided, shared decision-making, educational treatment style. This also applies to his working relationships with his patient’s other providers, sharing consultation notes from the first visit onwards with transparency & communication with the rest of the team.

Dr. Parmar continues working towards getting recognition in B.C. for a cancer care specialty designation for the profession. He was nominated President of the International Clinical Hyperthermia Society (ICHS), and will be hosting the 36th Annual ICHS conference in Vancouver in 2018. He serves on the board of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Parmar was one of only 8 naturopathic physicians voted to the Delphi Panel, creating consensus in the practice of this rapidly emerging and incredibly important field. The results of the first of two Delphi Panels have been published in the medline indexed journal Integrative Cancer Therapies. Dr. Parmar has also previously held several other appointments for the college in the province of BC, as well as for the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. Parmar is active in writing and lecturing in the fields of clinical hyperthermia, the tumour microenvironment, and integrative cancer care. He serves on the editorial board of several medical journals and is currently writing a book on his approach to cancer care today. He has completed a 5 year retrospective study on his integrative approach which has been presented internationally. The IHC CCC has been chosen as one of 7 original clinics in North America included in the Canadian and U.S. Integrative Oncology Study (CUSIOS), a very exciting prospective trial (CUSIOS Link). Dr. Parmar is now an affiliate residency director & primary teaching supervisor of a naturopathic oncology resident, and the IHC CCC is a CNME approved post doctoral training facility for Bastyr University.

An important project at the heart’s of the Parmar family relates to their extending medical relief to the residents of the island of Kho Khao in Thailand after the devastating tsunami of 2004. Dr’s Parmar lead the formation of an Integrated Health Clinic to support tsunami victims through his their H.E.L.P. Foundation.
