Elevated Skin Care with PRP

What Is Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)?

Although blood is mainly a liquid (called plasma), it also contains small solid components (red cells, white cells, and platelets.) The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries. PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors — can be 5 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual. To develop a PRP preparation, blood must first be drawn from a patient. The platelets are separated from other blood cells and their concentration is increased during a process called centrifugation. Then the increased concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood.

What is the Vampire Facial?

The Vampire Facial is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure involving the application of a gel-like substance called platelet rich plasma–derived from a patient’s own blood, into the skin of their face. It is a revolutionary treatment for face rejuvenation.

Who is the best candidate for this treatment?

Patients who wish to treat any of the following greatly benefit:

  • Neck rings
  • Grayish, pale or uneven skin tone
  • Fine Lines
  • Increased pore size
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Smile lines
  • Aging Hands
  • Acne scars
  • Scar softening
  • Crow’s feet

How does the Vampire Facial help skin tone, texture and fine lines?

By stimulating the body’s own collagen production, the skin volume increases. This fills fine lines and shrinks pores. New microscopic blood vessels are also created, which increase pinkness in skin and speed healing. Patients find that their new skin is soft and more even in texture.

How is the procedure done?

  • Patients have one tablespoon of their blood drawn. The vials of blood are spun in a centrifuge, and the platelet rich plasma (PRP) is extracted. The PRP activates stem cells will grow new tissue when applied to the face.
  • Numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for 20-30 minutes and covered with plastic wrap to increase its effectiveness.
  • Cream is removed and treatment area is disinfected.
  • The activated PRP solution is applied to skin while a dermaroller creates microchannels for deeper delivery. The dermaroller is a medical device that produces thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin and will be approximately 0.1mm in width. The column will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day.

How long do the benefits last?

The effects are there to stay; they are yours to keep. It is up to you to maintain them with your usual anti-aging approaches of a healthy diet, balanced hormones, stress management and sleep.

Is the Vampire Facial safe?

Yes, it is safe, non-synthetic and non-animal derived. There is no risk of allergic reaction because it is your own blood products that are used, not a foreign substance. Allergies to numbing creams are rare, but let your doctor know if you have a history of any past reactions.

Can I do the Vampire Facial instead of Botox or Fillers to achieve younger looking skin?

The three treatments have different uses, and are utilized in combination by many patients. The Vampire Facial improves the overall texture and color of your whole face. Fillers are used to create volume where there has been loss. Commonly women want slightly fuller lips, or to fill in the lines under the eyes which create a bagged look. Botox softens the lines of expression, and is enjoyed by women that feel they often look mad, or women that want to decrease how often their skin folds to prevent future wrinkles.

How many treatments should I have?

For skin brightening and general rejuvenation, we recommend three treatments that are two weeks apart. If there are brown spots to lighten or scars to soften, six treatments are recommended.

Does it hurt?

Our physicians will use a topical anesthetic to numb the skin, making the procedure comfortable. Most patients rate the discomfort a 2/10, and are relieved that “it wasn’t that bad. I wish I wasn’t so concerned”.

What will I look like after the treatment?

The skin will be pink afterwards. You will look like you have had a good dose of sun, or just finished a run. The skin lightens significantly in a few hours, and is usually undetectable the next day. Because the vampire facial encourages new collagen growth, results are seen soon after, and in the forthcoming two months. The skin will look refreshed, rejuvenated and younger overall.
