AI and Your Health
I’m sure by now you’ve either entered your own symptoms into Chat GPT or similar AI technology – or you know someone who has.
For a summary of some of the possible uses of AI in medication – a great review is presented in this article: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772906024000682
If you’ve tried this exercise and are inspired by some of the ideas, by all means bring in Chat GPTs take on your health issues and let’s discuss.
As an ND, I am innately curious and open to your ideas AND in a 30-minute visit, I have the time to review them. A big plus is that the list of potential ideas/diagnoses is generated without human bias. Bias in the population of doctors (and NDs) grows in a number of ways. Medical professionals are taught what conditions are the most probable and then may overlook things that are unlikely. For example: because more women are diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, you may disregard matching symptoms in a male and not encourage testing for RA. Another way that bias creeps in is the reinforcement of your biases in the few cases you’ve seen. For example, I’ve only ever seen male patients with a diagnosis of gout. But the truth is that I’ve only seen a handful of male gout patients because I mostly see female patients and it’s less common in females and not all the common in the population overall. So I could miss a female presenting with gout symptoms (fyi: gout in females typically shows up in menopause when estradiol decreases.)
Aside from generating a great differential diagnosis list, you likely still need your naturopathic doctor to help translate any ideas into action. I’m here to help you figure out how testing you’ve already completed helps to clarify the diagnosis, how to access testing and which tests to consider and discuss therapeutics we can try. I’m here to support your best care so – bring on the AI!
